Midea's journey began in 1968 as a bottle cap factory. The Midea trademark was registered in 1981 and by 1985 the company had launched its first residential air conditioner. Over time, the product range expanded to include refrigerators, washing machines, and microwaves.

Between 2001 and 2020, Midea partnered with major industry leaders, including Toshiba and Carrier, to expand its household appliance market into new territories.

In 2016, Midea made three major acquisitions in a single year, including Toshiba's home appliances division, German robotics company KUKA, and floor care company Eureka. That year, Midea is also listed in the Fortune Global 500.

Today, Midea manufactures a complete range of refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, and microwave ovens. The company also operates as a subcontractor for world-renowned brands such as Whirlpool and Black+Decker. With more than 190,000 employees, $52 billion in annual revenue, a ranking of 277th on the Fortune Global 500 list, over 40 distribution centres, and a presence in more than 200 countries and regions, Midea is a well-established leader in appliance manufacturing.
